The day earth of the Northeast affords no grazing for the wait burros as this family of farm laborers pauses beside a hichway for a light lunch cactus at left symbolizes the semi-desert character of the scrubland which 25 million Brazilians call home. Development of this poverty stricken region is one of Brazil's most pressing problems.
