1965 Press Photo East Town Shopping Area to get First Distinctive Embellishments

East Town,the east side shopping area, will get its first distinctive embellishments in the next month or two, including an old fashioned barber shop. It will be at 511 E. Mason st. in a building owned by the Patrick Cudahy Family Co. George Schellgell, company manager, said remodeling would be started soon. Operator of the shop will be Joseph A. Ortiz, 4246 N. 74th st., who now operates the 400 shop at 400 N. Water st. It was his idea for an old fashioned shop in East Town. He now is trying to find an old wooden barber pole for the exterior. Schellgell said the facade of the vacant shop at 511 E. Mason st. and the Otis Elevator Co. office at 512 E Mason st. would be redone in a colonial type of architecture.About one dozen gas light also will be installed, mostly on N. Jefferson st. Schellgell said he plans to one on N.
