West Milwaukee firemen emptied burning barley malt Thursday from a grain elevator at Kurth malting Corp., 2100 S. 43rd St. It could take several days to empty the 90 foot high concrete silo, officials said. The fire may have been smoldering for months. A hole was cut in the side of the silo and a front end loader was used to haul away the grain.Firemen will check Friday to see whether the blaze has stopped because when they left Thursday, there was too much smoke to tell.
