1959 Press Photo New mechanical tarp with be rolled out at Milwaukee Stadium

Another "first" for County Stadium is the new mechanically driven tarpaulin that will be introduced this season. The device, invented by Arthur W Wagner of Milwaukee, will be demonstrated after Tuesday's night game. The 175 foot aluminum roller, driven by motor scooter at each end, is expected to roll the half ton nylon fabric (when dry) over the infield in 40 to 45 seconds. It is usually takes a crew of 30 men about a minute and a half to spread the tarp. Only three men will be required--one at the dugout controls and one at each end of the tarp to make sure it is laid straight. Milwaukee Stadium Tarpaulin
