B47's to undergo modification program---This is the B47 jet bomber which the United States Air Force disclosed today will undergo a modification program at Tulsa, Oklahoma plant of Douglas Aircraft and the Marietta, Georgia, plant of the Lockheed Company. Approximately 1,400 of the craft, part of Strategic Air Command, are involved in the work, which will require several months The change will "beef up" the B47's as the result of an accident which showed structural weakness when the high altitude aircraft were used for low level attack operations.
