The Reynolds family on board the 50-foot ketch Phoenix in which they crossed the Pacific from Japan to Hawaii. Jessica kept a day-by-day record of the crossing. It took 46 days, most of them in rough weather, leaving a trail of cooking misadventures and bruises which Jessica tells about in the two-volume diary.
