The Army is learning to conserve rubber, That doesn't mean that jeep drivers will be held to 15 MPH or that caissons will have to go rolling along in 2nd gear, but it does mean that Motor Transport Division of Quartermaster Corps will see to it that tires are serviced so they will produce more mileage. Under the direction of field service engineers from US Rubber Co, officers and enlisted men are learning tire servicing procedures and dismountng tires, aligning wheels, caring for tires inflating correctly, mating tires and driving carefully. The rubber engineers lecture to large classes right in the field and give practical demonstrations. Here tire engineer Kirk Owens demonstrates the proper way to inspect heavy duty Army tires for cuts and bubbles
