1972 Press Photo Charles Fitzgerald with piece of tool "art" as retirement gift

When Charles Fitzgerald retired recently after 23 years in Du Pont's Petroleum Chemicals Gulf Coast Regional Laboratory in Houston, Texas, his friends made sure he had a supply of tools used in measuring octane of gasoline to take with him. The collection, however, was carefully welded together into a piece of sculpture so that Charley wouldn't have to use them again. The finished piece of "art", standing nearly 28 inches high was topped with a "bouncing pin", a frequently troublesome assembly in known engines that has since given way to an electronic device for measuring known intensity.

Photo is dated 1972.

Photo measures 8 x 10 inches.
