A familiar landmark to Lake Vista residents is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Southern Regional Research Laboratory across Robert E. Lee Boulevard, one of the boundaries of the subdivision. The laboratory seeks to find new uses for Southern Agricultural products and ways to improve present processes involving them. Lake Vista is also bounded by Bayou St. John Orleans canal and the lake.
