Studies estimate initial conversion cost would start at $400,000. - The city of New Orleans, which boasts the distinction of being the site of the first opera performance in the United States in 1796, may once again become the cultural center it was 100 years ago. At least, this is the optimistic hope for Mrs. Edwin H. Blum, president of the Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera House Association. Since assuming office two years ago, Mrs. Elum and her organization have worked diligently to make a dream become a reality, a dream which would give New Orleans an opera house once again.
