Battle of New Orleans Anniversary Events Set. Four States Planning to Participate. A full schedule of events designed to emphasize the historical importance of the Battle of New Orleans and a high school essay contest to put it into proper perspective are among activities being planned in connection with the observance of the 150th anniversary of the battle here January 1-8. The Commission to handle arrangements for the sesquicentennial celebration was set up by an act of the 87th Congress, and the governors, congressmen, other state officials and citizens of Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky and Tennessee - the four states which had regiments and volunteers in the battle - are planning to participate. The Rene Beauregard home at Chalmette National Park forms a picturesque background as these committee chairmen for the Battle of New Orleans Sesquicentennial celebration take a stroll through the battlegrounds. From left are Mrs. Margaret C. Allen, Chairman of the Patios by Candlelight Tours, Mrs LeGrand J. Crumb, chairman of Vieux Carre events; William R. Pohlmann, chairman of "Night in Jackson Square"; Mrs. Nathaniel L. Felton, chairman of Vieux Carre tours, and Mrs. Arhtur F. Felt Jr., chairman of the Schools Committee.
