Dr. Hebert McLean Evans, who discovered Vitamin E as an essential element in animal and human reproduction in 1926, is dead at age 88. Dr. Evans died Saturday of heart failure after a long illness. Dr. Evans was a professor of anatomy at the University of California at Berkeley until 1966. His research specialty was in embryology where he developed a technique for using dye staining of living cells. He was regarded at the University of California's Medical Center in San Francisco as the faculty's top scholar.
