No trip to the south of France could not be complete without spending several days wandering up the hill roads off the coast, visiting the wonderful old chateaux and the walled towns which add so much to the perspective of history of the area. Except for the fact that the roads are paved, little seems to have changed in the area for centuries. The sun warms the vineyards, the old stones grow more mellow and there is in the air n indefinable peace, of accord with the seasons, that slowly but very positively seeps into your bones as you traverse the hills. Magnificent castles, chateaux and country houses bloom all over France. It's part of the fun to visit and to meet people whose families have lived there for centuries.
