1982 Press Photo Grave of Albert Johnson, Aklavik, Northwest Territories, Canada

The grave of Albert Johnson in Aklavik, in Canada's Northwest Territories. Dubbed the "Mad Trapper of Rat River," he was a silent man in a lonely land -- a fugitive in life and, to this day, he remains an enigmatic and enduring legend in death. "Albert Johnson arrived in Ross River August 21, 1927. Complaints of local trappers brought the RCMP on him. He shot two officers and became a fugitive of the law. The howling huskies, dangerous trails and frozen nights the posse finally caught up with him. He was killed up the Eagle River, February 17, 1932. Here lies the Mad Trapper."

Photo is dated 1982.
