In a religious ceremony dating back more than 800 years, an impressive reliquary of gilded silver is borne through the streets in the Procession of the Holy Blood at Bruges, Belgium. Adorned with cameos, enamels and precious jewels, the exquisite reliquary was fashioned by Bruges goldsmith Jean Crabbe in the 17th century. The procession itself dates back to the year 1150 when the Count of Flanders Thierry D'Alsace came to Bruges carrying the octagonal phial containing a drop of the Holy Blood, which had been entrusted to him by Baudouin III, then King of Jerusalem.
